Foundation Riding Skills Weekend

A weekend mountain bike riding skills course aimed at confident and competent cyclists who wish to acquire the skills to be able to venture off-road. The course will also develop your general mountain bike knowledge, carrying out minor trailside repairs, what kit to carry and more. This carefully structured program will introduce the basics of riding off-road and help you develop and improve your  technique, skills and gain confidence.  

Course content delivered by CTC Skills instructor:

  • Bike and equipment choice / Trailside repairs

  • Bike set-up

  • Gear selection

  • Body position / weight distribution / balance

  • Effective Braking - which brake when and how much

  • Descending

  • Climbing

  • Basic Line Choice

Put all your new skills into practise on some of the best trails here in Swaledale in the Yorkshire Dales.

Typical Course

Friday:

Optional Friday Mountain Bike Maintenance course

Saturday am:

Bike set up, safety checks and ride preperation. Develop core riding skills - gear selection, body position, braking. Simple trailside repairs and plenty of top tips!

Saturday pm:

Local trails developing Descending, Climbing and Cornering techniques . Informal group evaluation over tea/coffe and homemade cake at Dales Bike Centre

Sunday

More of a ride in the stunning Swaledale scenery putting into practice and developing techniques and skills covered. End of ride group evaluation and more tea/coffee and cake at Dales Bike Centre.

To enable you to get the most from your Mountain Bike Riding Skills Course we limit course size to a maximum of 6 participants.
